Virtual meeting on OSM currently taking place

posted 7 Apr 2020, 10:04 by Stephanie Gale   [ updated 7 Apr 2020, 10:08 ]

Log in to online scout manager to see what Jamie's up to!

Hi all!
This is a brand new feature on OSM so tonight is more of a trial to find out how it works and see if its something we want to make use of going forward.
You should have the option to upload photos/documents of what you've done, there should also be a group chat function for you all to talk to each other on.

Activities:
Alphabet Scavenger Hunt,
We're going to keep it simple though, find an item in your house that begins with each letter of the alphabet.
How many letters can you find?
Can you find items that are unique with nobody else in the colony using that item?
I've created a basic Google Form for you to record the items you've found - Alphabet Scavenger Hunt
Giraffe Challenge,
Just a bit of a fun activity to test out the new Scouting at Home functionality!
Lets see who can build the tallest giraffe (or other large animal), bonus points for the most realistic looking!

OSM Virtual Beaver meetings

Monday 6th April:

Hi all, hope you're keeping well!

I've been playing around on OSM again, they've introduced a new feature that allows us to hold a kind of remote, virtual meeting through OSM. If you log in and head to the program you'll now see a big blue button to 'Participate at Home', so as I fill out an online program each week you'll be able to complete the activities & upload proof in the form of photos and documents if necessary. There's also a group chat feature so you can all stay

in touch and share your thoughts and activities with each other.

It is brand new though, so will need a bit of experimentation to see what we can do with it & ultimately if it's something you all want me to do going forwards throughout the lock down.

If this is something you think you're be interested in could you please reply to this email so I know I'm not just talking to myself, and then you can head over to OSM to have a look for yourself.

I'm going to start the virtual meetings this week, so our first night will be normal time tomorrow. I'll be logged in on the group chat from around half 5 to talk you though everything. I'm fairly sure you can see and complete the activities in advance should you want to, but I think we'll all get more out of it doing it at the same time.

I plan on using this feature alongside the Facebook group if it works.

Children's Hospital Scout Group

Children's Hospital Scout Group: knit a teddy
Jamie Billington shared a post.

If we have any knitters, or if anyone fancies using this time to learn how to knit, this is a fairly straight forward project (I think, but haven't attempted it yet) and a lovely thing to do for the Children's Hospital.

I'm going to knit one up this evening, I'll let you know how it goes!

Hilary Clayton

Can any knitters help me .
I am looking for knitters who can knit teddies for the children’s hospital scout group. They give a teddy to each new member of the 1st Sheffield scout group. Sadly there are many new members.

The 1st Sheffield are a group lead by volunteers who provide scout activities to children in hospital. They provide fun and support to children both long term and short term stay in hospital.

If you can help please send a PM to me and I can arrange to have wool delivered to you or if you can knit now I’ll replace your wool stock later , after Coronavirus.

Thank you . Pattern should be in the photo. Please ask if I’ve missed anything.
